Former Team India cricketer Sunil Gavaskar is the first-ever batsman to score 10,000 runs in the longest format of the game
The legendary batsman also holds the third place on the list of captains who have scored the most runs in Test cricket. In 1978/79, Gavaskar scored 732 runs in six Test matches against the prime West Indies. With a top score of 205 runs, he also had four centuries and one half-century to his name
The veteran also shared the third spot on the list of fastest players to reach 5000 runs in the longest format of the game. Gavaskar achieved the feat in 95 innings. The other batsmen sharing the spot are Garfield Sobers, Matthew Hayden, and Vivian Richards
Gavaskar concluded his Test career with 125 matches for India. Scoring 10,122 runs, he had 34 centuries and 45 half-centuries to his name with a top score of an unbeaten 236 runs
He also represented India in 108 ODI matches and scored 3,092 runs, including one century and 27 half-centuries. With a top score of an unbeaten 103 runs, Gavaskar stands as one of the most successful Indian batsmen
