On July 22, 2010, Sri Lanka's legendary spinner Muttiah Muralitharan played his last Test match against Team India in Galle
The historic record of Muralitharan in the longest format of the game is the most number of wickets in the format. Having made 133 Test appearances for India's distant rivals, the Ceylon-born has registered 800 wickets to his name. No other bowler has even come close to this record
Stepping away from the format, Muralitharan holds the record of the player with the most number of 'Player of the series' awards. Representing Sri Lanka in 106 matches, he enjoys the top spot with Ravichandran Ashwin with 11 awards to their names
He also enjoys the top spot on the list of players to claim consecutive ten wickets in Test matches. The former cricketer holds the record, having achieved the feat in four Test games
The 53-year-old former spinner also has the most number of wickets on a single ground in the traditional format of the game. Playing 24 Tests at Sinhalese Sports Club Ground in Colombo, he has bagged 166 wickets
