Shubman Gill expresses views on the appointment of India's Test captain.
"Yes, definitely. I think it is the biggest honour that a player can get. Test cricket is something that not many people get the opportunity (to play) and I'm really very excited for this opportunity"
When asked about the batting order for the first match, Gill stated that he is yet to analyse the pitch conditions and will make a call accordingly.
"This summer has been a little bit different from the other English summers. It's been a little bit dry. I was just waiting to see the wicket for the one last time and see the final combinations"
Team India's Test skipper to bat at number four, succeeding Virat Kohli at the position.
"After Virat (Kohli) bhai retired, me and GG (Gautam Gambhir) bhai had a discussion about it. We were both clear on that, he wanted me to bat at number four and I was also clear that I wanted to bat at that number"
Three-four pacers are likely to feature in the first Test match.
"You can't win a Test match without taking 20 wickets, no matter how many runs you've scored. So that has been one of our key discussion points. There might be a case, where we would be going with six pure batters and we would see a bowling all-rounder and three-four premier fast bowlers".
How does Shubman Gill- the batsman looks at the series?
"Honestly, when I go out there and bat, I just want to play as a batsman and not really want to think that I'm captain of the team, because that really puts too much pressure on you. I want to dominate the opposition and be the best batsman of the series"
"Any contributions from lower order are highly appreciated," Gill concludes.
"All contributions are highly appreciated, especially from the lower order. The amount of frustration the fielding team gets when the tailenders score runs, it kind of carries on when they bat as well. Any kind of contribution from the lower order is highly appreciated in this team"
