In the fifth Test match against England, Team India's opening batsman, KL Rahul, is falling short by just 32 runs to surpass Sunil Gavaskar's record of the most runs by an Indian opening batsman in the SENA series
If he manages to score 32 runs, he will then overtake Gavaskar's tally of 542 runs, which came in 1979
A century would help him become the first-ever Indian opening batsman to register three centuries in England. So far, he has scored 1125 runs, with four centuries in 26 innings and a top score of 149 runs
The Karnataka-born cricketer also requires 45 runs to outclass Gavaskar's record of the Indian opening batsman with the highest amount of runs in England. Gavaskar holds the record with 1152 runs in 15 Test matches, whereas Rahul has scored 1108 runs in 12 Tests
The fifth Test match will be crucial from India's perspective, as the side will be looking to secure a draw against the 'Three Lions'
