It was the first time for Team India to enter the title clash of such a big event in the game's history. A high on confidence Indian skipper Kapil Dev was all geared up to lay his hands on the elusive showpiece
Batting first, India lost the early wicket of their then-stalwart Sunil Gavaskar. Despite losing the early wicket, fellow opener Krishnamachari Srikkanth played a knock of 38 runs in 57 balls, including seven boundaries and a maximum
Srikanth was accompanied by Mohinder Amarnath, who scored 26 runs off 80 deliveries. His knock was laced with three boundaries
Later, Sandeep Patil accumulated 27 runs in 29 balls. With a boundary to Patil's name, Team India was bowled out for 183 runs by the West Indies pace attack
Fierce Caribbean pacer Andy Roberts claimed three wickets in 10 overs. Malcolm Marshall, Michael Holding and Larry Gomes registered two wickets each to their names. Joel Garner, too, managed to pick up one wicket
At this point, many fans believed that the Clive Lloyd-led side would clinch the title by defeating India at Lord's
But Dev had other plans and didn't want to lose the opportunity after coming this way in the marquee event

Meanwhile, Madan Lal alongside Mohinder Amarnath bagged three wickets each to help India take a step closer to the historic win
On the other hand, Balwinder Singh Sandhu claimed two and Kapil Dev, Roger Binny managed to register one wicket each to their names. With this, they restricted the Caribbean to 140 runs and won the first-ever World Cup title for India (Pic: X/@ICC)
Since then, Team India has emerged as one of the top cricketing teams across the globe in all three formats of the game
