During the T20I Tri-Series match against the UAE, Afghanistan's skipper and lead spinner, Rashid Khan, bagged three wickets by conceding 21 runs in his four-over spell

With this, he surpassed New Zealand's Tim Southee to become the leading wicket-taker in the format's history

Currently, Rashid enjoys the top spot on the list with 165 wickets in 98 T20I matches for Afghanistan. On the other hand, Southee is now placed in the second spot with 164 wickets in 126 T20I appearances for the Kiwis

Riding on Rashid and Sharauddin Ashraf's (three-wicket haul) heroics, the Afghans secured a dominating victory by 38 runs against the UAE

With the Asia Cup 2025 approaching, Rashid is all geared up to lead the side in the continental tournament, starting from September 9
