The FIFA World Cup 2026 match between Argentina and Austria is scheduled to be played on Monday at the Dallas Stadium in Texas

Ahead of the match, Argentina's skipper Lionel Messi will be eyeing new records. So far, he has scored in five consecutive World Cup matches and needs just one more goal against Austria to equal the all-time record of six straight World Cup games with a goal. He will then join France's Just Fontaine and Brazil's Jairzinho

Another goal would also help him move to the top of the list for the tournament's all-time highest goal-scorer

Currently, he is levelled with Germany legend Miroslav Klose on 16 World Cup goals

If he manages to score a goal from the outside of the penalty area, the 38-year-old footballer would also set a new record for the most long-range goals in World Cup history. He has already scored five from beyond the box
