The Mumbai Schools Sports Association (MSSA) is investigating a Rizvi Springfield High School (Bandra) cricketer on charges of submitting incorrect age proof documents, after receiving a complaint from a parent of another school.
The player in question is an all-rounder and is part of the Bandra school's U-16 Harris Shield Elite Division U-16 team that has entered the semi-finals of the prestigious inter-school tourney.
A parent of a Dahisar school, through an RTI (Right to Information), found out that the player's date of birth (DOB) in the school's records is 18-03-1998. However, the player's DOB in the list submitted by Rizvi to MSSA is 18-11-1999.
To be eligible to play in the MSSA U-16 tournament, a player must be born on or after 1-1-1999. It is learnt that this player first went to St Andrew's School in Mira Road.
He later switched to Shailendra Education in Dahisar and thereafter moved to Rizvi. However, when he joined the Bandra school, he submitted the leaving certificate (LC) of the Mira Road school and not the Dahisar one. It is also surprising how the player got admission into Rizvi on the basis of his Dahisar school LC, without a LC from his Mira Road school.
Meeting on Monday MSSA's cricket secretary HS Bhor has called representatives of all the concerned parties for a clarification on Monday. The final decision will be taken next week.&nbsp;Bhor confirmed the incident, but refused to divulge details.
"Right now, all I can say is that we have called all the parties involved (player, his parents and concerned school officials) for a meeting to investigate the issue. I can disclose details only after a decision is taken on the matter," Bhor told mid-day yesterday.
Another coach, on condition of anonymity, said, "Rizvi school is not at fault, but the player is to be blamed. Age forgery at the junior level is one of the root causes of our senior teams not doing well. I hope MSSA takes strict action."
Rizvi coach says... Rizvi coach Raju Pathak said he is yet to receive any official communication from MSSA on the matter. "We have not received any official letter from MSSA regarding this issue. Once we get some official communication, only then will we be able to look into the matter and decide on the future course of action."
For now though, MSSA has barred the player from playing in the Harris Shield semi-finals which will be held next week.
