London: A British sailor has died after being swept overboard while competing in the Clipper Round The World Yacht Race, organisers announced on Friday.

Sarah Young, a 40-year-old company owner from London, was washed into the sea by a wave as she tended the mainsail aboard the IchorCoal boat and was swept away in strong winds.
According to a race spokeswoman, the incident took place in the mid-north Pacific at around 1:44pm UK time (1244 GMT).
Young's body was recovered by her crew and they tried to resuscitate her but she never regained consciousness. Her cause of death has still to be confirmed but is believed to be exposure or drowning. Young's fellow crew members were unharmed.
Race officials said a full investigation would be carried out in co-operation with the appropriate authorities.
No previous sailing experience is necessary to compete in the Clipper Race, a 40,000 nautical mile event featuring 70-foot ocean racing yachts and, according to the official website, "all that is asked of participants is a good level of fitness, an age over 18 &mdash; and a thirst for adventure into the unknown."
