Mumbai: No play was possible on the opening day of the four-day Mumbai Schools Sports Association Harris Shield Elite Division final between defending champions Rizvi Springfield (Bandra) and IES VN Sule Guruji (Dadar) at Bombay Gymkhana yesterday to unexpected rain in the morning.
A continuous early morning drizzle rendered the ground conditions unsuitable for play. The umpires waited till afternoon before taking a call and finally decided that no play would be possible as the conditions were slippery and unsafe for the young players.
MSSA cricket secretary H S Bhor said: “The ground was wet and we couldn’t allow the kids to play in such conditions. But there are still three days to go and let’s hope for some sunshine tomorrow.”
