Suzuka: Championship leader Nico Rosberg just about edged out teammate Lewis Hamilton to take pole position for today's Japanese Grand Prix at the end of a close-run qualifying session yesterday.
The German lapped the 5.8-kilometer long Suzuka circuit in one minute, 30.647 seconds on an overcast afternoon with a lap that was just 0.013 seconds quicker than Hamilton's best.
Saturday's pole was the 30th of Rosberg's career and third in a row at Suzuka. It was also Mercedes' 52nd pole from the last 55 races, with the German squad having started every race but one this season from the front. "I knew I could do it. I just had to get my head down and nail it," said Rosberg.
