Paris: This year's French Open will enjoy an increase in prize money of more than 10 percent over 2013, the French Tennis Federation said Tuesday.
The total money will be 25 million euros with the singles champions each earning 1.65 million euros -- 10 percent up on last year, reports Xinhua.
Players who fail to progress beyond the second, third and fourth rounds, however, will receive 20 to 25 percent more prize money than in 2013.
"This considerable increase in the prize money for Roland Garros is in line with the four-year plan drawn up for the period 2013-2016," said tournament director Gilbert Ysern.
The prize money of this year's Australian Open was AUD 33 million while that of last year's Wimbledon and US Open were, respectively, 22.56 million pounds and USD 33.6 million.
