India’s top men’s doubles pair of Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty signed off from the Hong Kong Open as runners-up after going down to China’s Olympic silver-medallists Liang Wei Keng and Wang Chang in the final of the Super 500 badminton event here on Sunday.
The World No. 9 Indian duo, who bagged a World Championships bronze medal last month, suffered a 21-19, 14-21, 17-21 loss to the sixth-ranked Chinese duo.
Shetty admitted they struggled to counter their opponent’s aggression in the last two games.

“The shuttles they hit were fast. They put us under a lot of pressure in the first four or five strokes. In the first game we countered it quite well, kept it low, but we weren’t able to do that in the second and third game,” said Shetty.
“It was a good week, especially after the World Championships, to be playing a final. We wanted to all the way and win, but credit to them, they played really well. There’s always a next time and overall we’re happy with the performance,” said Shetty. It was the Indian duo’s first final appearance in 16 months since winning the Thailand Open in May last year.
Meanwhile, Lakshya Sen suffered the same fate as his compatriots in the singles final, losing 15-21, 12-21 to China’s World No. 4 Li Shi Feng.
