BLOEMFONTEIN: Influential German midfielder Bastian Schweinsteiger trained on Saturday in a last-ditch attempt to prove his fitness ahead of tonight's last 16 clash with England.

The Bayern Munich star has been suffering from a hamstring strain as well as a back muscle injury and was substituted in the 1-0 win over Ghana on Wednesday which secured Germany's progress into the second round.
