Tyre trouble
The British Grand Prix was marred by multiple instances — six in total, four cases relating to rear left wheels —u00a0of tyre blowouts at perilously high speeds. This led to some drivers calling on their peers to consider a boycott of the following weekend’s German GP if a solution to the crisis was not found by Pirelli.
Secret tyre test
Mercedes take part in a three-day, 1,000km tyre test at Pirelli’s request at Barcelona’s Circuit de Catalunya on 15-17 May thereby breaking article 22.4 of FIA’s sporting regulations. Consequently, Mercedes were banned from this year's young driver test and reprimanded along with the tyre manufacturer.
