ICICI Bank net profit for Q1 FY27 rises 16 per cent to Rs 14,804.5 crore

Private lender ICICI Bank on Saturday posted a 15.95 per cent rise in its standalone net profit at Rs 14,804.5 crore during the first quarter of the financial year 2026-2027.

The bank had reported a standalone Rs 12,768.21 crore in the corresponding quarter last year, it said in a regulatory filing.

Net interest income

Net interest income (NII) increased by 12.7 per cent year-on-year to Rs 24,384 crore in the quarter under review from Rs 21,635 crore in same quarter during the previous year. Net interest income is the difference between interest earned and interest paid, a key metric to understand a bank's financial stability.

Net interest margin, a key financial metric to understand a bank's profitability, stood at 4.36 per cent in the June quarter compared to 4.32 per cent in the same quarter in the year ago period.

Deposits and advances

Total deposits increased by 14 per cent to Rs 18,33,586 crore as on June 30, 2026. The average savings account and current account deposits to total deposits stood at 38.1 per cent. Total advances during the quarter increased by 19.6 per cent on year to Rs 16,31,260 crore as on June 30, 2026.

Asset quality

From an asset quality perspective, the gross non-performing assets (NPA) ratio improved to 1.38 per cent during the reporting quarter from 1.67 per cent a year ago, and 1.40 per cent at the end of March this year. Net NPA ratio was 0.35 per cent at June 30, 2026 compared to 0.33per cent at March 31, 2026 and 0.41 per cent at June 30, 2025.

The gross NPA additions were Rs 5,552 crore in the June 2026 quarter compared to Rs 6,245 crore in the year ago period. Recoveries and upgrades of NPAs, excluding write-offs and sale, were Rs 2,845 crore during the quarter under review compared to Rs 3,211 crore in the previous year.

The net additions to gross NPAs, excluding write-offs and sale, were Rs 2,707 crore during the first quarter this year compared to Rs 3,034 crore in Q1 FY26. The bank has written-off gross NPAs amounting to Rs 1,673 crore this June quarter. The provisioning coverage ratio on non-performing loans was 74.7 per cent at June 30, 2026.
The overall capital adequacy of the bank stood at 16.84 per cent as on June 30, 2026.
