At the 2026 Met Gala, Isha Ambani once again turned the global spotlight toward Indian craftsmanship, blending heritage, art, and personal storytelling into a striking red carpet appearance. Embracing the theme "Fashion Is Art," she chose a custom creation by Gaurav Gupta, a sculptural saree that reimagined traditional draping through a contemporary, artistic lens.

The saree itself was far from conventional. Woven using pure gold threads, the ensemble featured intricate hand painted motifs inspired by Pichwai art, rendered in muted earthy tones. The design merged fluid drapes with structured, sculptural elements, transforming the garment into what many described as a wearable piece of art. Crafted over more than 1,200 hours by dozens of artisans, the look underscored the scale and precision of Indian textile craftsmanship on an international stage.

What added emotional depth to the ensemble was its strong connection to family heritage. Isha accessorised her outfit with heirloom jewellery from her mother, Nita Ambani's personal collection. The blouse itself was heavily embellished with diamonds and traditional zardozi work, while layered necklaces, earrings, and statement pieces further elevated the look. These jewels, many featuring old mine cut diamonds, emeralds, and polki, brought a sense of generational continuity, blending legacy with high fashion.

One of the most talked about elements of her appearance, however, was her unconventional accessory, a mango shaped bag. Far from being a typical luxury handbag, the piece was actually a sculptural art object she has owned for around two decades. Designed as a realistic mango housed in a gleaming structure, it served as a symbolic nod to her roots and Indian identity. The accessory perfectly aligned with the evening's artistic theme, reinforcing the idea that fashion can extend beyond clothing into storytelling objects.

Adding to the regal aesthetic was a historic sarpech inspired ornament placed at the back of her saree, referencing traditional Indian royal adornments. This archival touch contrasted beautifully with the modern silhouette, creating a seamless dialogue between past and present.

All about the styling

Styled by Anaita Shroff Adajania, the overall look was a carefully curated fusion of art, culture, and personal narrative. From the gold woven saree to the heirloom jewels and the nostalgic mango bag, every element contributed to a cohesive story, one that celebrated Indian heritage while confidently occupying a global fashion platform.

In essence, Isha Ambani's Met Gala 2026 appearance was not just about glamour. It was a thoughtful expression of identity, craftsmanship, and legacy, proving that fashion, at its best, can be both deeply personal and universally resonant.
