Actor Divya Vinekar who starred alongside Alia Bhatt in Darlings, passes away

Actor Divya Vinekar, who featured in Alia Bhatt and Shefali Shah-starrer Darlings, has reportedly passed away. The news was confirmed by her friend and colleague RJ Rohini Ramnathan in an emotional post on Instagram. However, details surrounding her demise, including the date and cause of death, could not be independently verified.

Vinekar was credited for playing a female constable in Netflix's Darlings, a dark comedy-drama directed by Jasmeet K Reen. The film, marking Alia Bhatt's debut as a producer, also featured Shefali Shah, Vijay Varma and Roshan Mathew in pivotal roles. Released on Netflix in August 2022, the film explored domestic abuse through the story of a mother-daughter duo navigating a difficult marriage and its aftermath.

In a heartfelt tribute on Instagram, Rohini Ramnathan announced Divya Vinekar's demise, describing it as sudden and unexpected. She also requested people to respect the family's privacy as they come to terms with the loss. She wrote, "It is with utmost sadness and shock that I have to inform all those who love/adore our DV, @divyavinekar, that she left for the heavenly abode today. It was sudden and unexpected. The family and the ones whose lives she touched daily with her grace and love are dealing with this. Enquiries at this moment could be avoided. However, this is to inform those who wish to bid adieu to her: 10 am tomorrow, 20th of October, at Shivaji Park Hindu Crematorium."

Remembering Vinekar's kindness and knowledge from their time together, she added, "DV, as we know her fondly, was a pillar to me personally and professionally for all of us at Fever FM. Her work ethic, her kindness and her knowledge made her one of a kind. You'll be missed, baby; go well. Thank you for being a part of us. We were blessed to have her."

Apart from Darlings, Vinekar's screen credits include the 2022 film Jalsa, which starred Vidya Balan and Shefali Shah.

Besides an actress, Divya was also a digital content creator, freelance content writer, and poet. She transitioned into mainstream performing arts in 2018 after working in digital marketing for nearly 10 years.
