As the buzz around Alia Bhatt and Sharvari's spy thriller Alpha continues to build, the film has been cleared by the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC). The film has been granted the U/A certificate ahead of its July 3 release date. Alpha was granted the certificate only after the makers made certain changes to the film.
The CBFC's Examining Committee reportedly asked for very few modifications to the film. According to a Bollywood Hungama report, the makers were asked to redraft the disclaimer at the beginning of the film. Additionally, Subtitles were inserted for all the songs. The report also claimed that the producers, Yash Raj Films (YRF), were asked to mention the opening cards and end scrolls in the applied language, in this case, Hindi.
The report also listed the cuts that were made to the film. Visuals in a scene in the first half of Alpha were reportedly reduced and replaced with alternative visuals. A detail of these modified visuals was not provided. A similar cut was applied to another point in the first half as well. In the second half of Alpha, the visuals of multiple stabbings were allegedly asked to be reduced and replaced with alternative visuals. In addition to these visual changes, a foul word was asked to be deleted in the first half.
The CBFC's Examining Committee reportedly asked the makers to insert anti-alcohol static in all scenes involving alcohol consumption. Lastly, as per the rules, the makers were also asked to submit the parents' consent letter for the child artist.
Once these suggested changes were made, the makers of Alpha were granted the censor certificate on June 29. An earlier surfaced censor certificate of the film mentions the length of the film as 140.48 minutes. This means Alpha is 2 hours, 20 minutes and 48 seconds long.
Meanwhile, the plot summary of the film on the certificate reads, "Driven by revenge, a young girl destroys anyone in her path until her journey uncovers the hidden truths of her own life. She is bold, cold, and ready to cross any line, hurting anyone who stands in her way."
Alpha marks the 4th standalone film in the YRF Spy Universe and is directed by Shiv Rawail. Following multiple delays, the film finally hits the cinemas on Friday, July 3.
