No matter what some filmmakers might say, market trends have nothing to do with a movie's success. Quality does. That's the principle Boman Irani has kept in mind as he writes his second directorial venture after The Mehta Boys (2025).
"Telling a good story than a genre story [is important]. People weren't sure a father-son story like [The Mehta Boys] would work. It might not have given the numbers, but it found an audience because it resonated as a story," stated Irani.
The actor and director tries to instil the same belief in his students at Spiral Bound, his screenwriting initiative. "We have a hit and everybody says that's the kind of film is working. No! It was a hit because it was a good film. The two of the biggest films of the last year were poles apart - one was a teenage love story [Saiyaara] and the other, an espionage film [Dhurandhar]. So, good films work. You should be in the position to write a good film of any kind."
