Veteran actor Sudesh Berry has stirred a political debate after making strong remarks about the Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) and Prime Minister Narendra Modi during a recent appearance on the Akampani Akki podcast. Clips from the interview have gone viral on social media, with users reacting sharply to his comments.
Berry claimed he had once been invited to join the CJP but refused the offer. Recalling the incident, he said, "I got a call to join the party, but I blocked the number. I had no interest in joining them."
The Border 2 actor went on to criticise the party, saying, "People who sit at Jantar Mantar and form new parties are not doing anything for the country. Instead of protesting all the time, do something useful for old-age homes or children. That will make a difference."
He also alleged that such groups were obstructing the country's progress and claimed they were backed by certain industrialists. In another strongly worded statement, Berry said, "These people have no class, no worth. They are only stopping the country's development instead of contributing to it."
During the same conversation, Berry passionately defended Prime Minister Narendra Modi and questioned those who frequently criticise him.
"What has Narendra Modi done to you? He made India famous all over the world after starting out by selling tea. Some people simply cannot digest his success," the actor said.
He also spoke about the education system, adding, "What is the point of becoming highly educated or even an IAS officer if you eventually choose corruption? Education should make you a better human being."
Berry concluded the podcast by expressing his admiration for the Prime Minister in deeply personal terms. "I want to wash Modiji's feet and drink that water. I don't know him personally. Just as we worship God without seeing Him, I respect Modiji the same way. For me, he is an avatar of Lord Vishnu. He is not an ordinary man. He is bringing Ram Rajya to this country," he said.
His remarks have since sparked reactions online, with people criticising the language he used during the podcast and also calling his worship to PM Modi blind faith.
The veteran actor, known for films like Border and his cameo in Border 2 and television shows such as Surag, has often shared his views on national and social issues. His latest comments have once again put him at the centre of an online political debate.
