Actor Swara Bhasker took to social media to react after her husband and political activist Fahad Ahmad was arrested by Mumbai Police during a CJP protest in the city. Fahad was detained, along with other protesters, during a demonstration at Chaityabhoomi in Dadar. Swara slammed the act by the police, calling it a "shameful state of affairs".
Swara shared a video on Instagram on Monday evening, in which Ahmad can be seen being taken away by the police. In the video, he is heard questioning the officers, "Why are you arresting me?" The video was reportedly recorded on Monday afternoon at the site of the protest in Mumbai.
Sharing the clip, Bhasker wrote, "Mumbai Police detaining fahadzirarahmad and other protestors at chaityabhoomi in Mumbai on 20 July 2026, at 4:30 pm. They are currently being detained at Mahim Police Station. This is India's democracy. Shameful state of affairs (sic)."
Prior to this, she had shared another clip in which Fahad was seen recording from inside a police vehicle as he described what had happened. Sharing the video, Bhasker wrote, "I received this video at 4:30 pm on July 20, 2026, from fahadzirarahmad. He asked me to post it. Mumbai Police is allegedly attacking peaceful protesters at Chaityabhoomi in Mumbai. Those in solidarity, please reach Chaityabhoomi peacefully and in large numbers (sic)."
Swara Bhasker married activist Fahad Ahmad in a registered marriage under the Special Marriage Act on January 6, 2023.
Several protesters gathered at Chaityabhoomi in support of the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) protest. The CJP held a Sansad Chalo protest march in Delhi to the Parliament House, which witnessed thousands of protesters, including veteran actors Shabana Azmi and Prakash Raj.
In Mumbai, similar protests were held at the Chaityabhoomi in Mumbai. Many were detained by Mumbai Police at the protest site. Some demonstrators were also reportedly injured during the police action.
The two protests took place on the same day. Mumbai protests were met with detention and police action, while the Delhi protest witnessed a lathi charge and the use of tear gas shells by security forces to disperse the crowd marching towards the Parliament.
