Amid the growing backlash around the violence against protestors at the CJP protests on July 20, 2026, in Delhi, singer Arijit Singh took to social media to voice his anger. The singer slammed the action of the uniformed personnel, saying they behaved like goons. However, Arijit's opinion hurt a fan, who said they lost respect for him. Arijit responded in a strong-worded message, saying they could delete his playlist.
Earlier on July 21, Arijit shared a post on X (formerly Twitter), Arijit wrote, "yaar ab to students ko maar rahe hain yahaan aap log. Hello Neta, Mantri !! Hello Delhi Police aren't you ashamed!!?? kya chal raha hai bhai!! apne aapko bhagwan samajh liya hai kya '''? Har cheez Yaad rakkha jayega! Har har Mahadev! Yaad rakhna The Only Constant Is Change!"
Later he shared another post that read, "wow!! checking videos of Human beings in uniform behaving like goons."
One upset fan replied to Arijit's tweet and wrote, "This is not abt CJP or gov topic bt u lost all respect I ever had for u. Many factors r responsible for it. Bt as u already said, my opinion doesn't matter to u. Fair enough, I deserve this for being ur long time fan. bt nw I hate u from bottom of my heart. (sic)"
Arijit did not hold back and reacted to the criticism saying, "I am not worried about the fact that somebody respects me or not. I am also not bothered about anyone's opinion as everyone have their own. you being a fan of me doesn't compel me to say sugarcoated words to you. but I apologise to you as a person. My wordsmight have hurt your emotions. I am truly sorry I never meant it that way. It's just that I am angry. Forgive me to become free. You can delete all my playlist and forget my existence. be happy. I genuinely pray for your happiness. but that doesn't change my opinion. Take care. (sic)"
Another user reacted to his post, questioning, "So, you tell me, was everyone a police officer?" To, this the singer wrote, "
When I saw those non-human folks, they were all in their fancy uniforms, right? Some people were in ordinary clothes."
The protests in Delhi reportedly took a violent turn after the police resorted to a lathi charge and fired tear gas shells at the demonstrators after they allegedly tried to breach barricades. This led to multiple being injured and detained. According to PTI, more than 50 police personnel and over 50 protesters were left injured after clashes broke out in New Delhi.
The Delhi Police also detained more than 100 protesters from several locations across New Delhi, including Parliament Street, Patel Chowk, Constitution Club, Shastri Bhawan and nearby areas. Similarly, demonstrators were detained in Mumbai.
