On Hrishikesh Mukherjee's death anniversary, we remember the magic of his films which have not faded with time

Hrishikesh Mukherjee who started his career as an assistant director to Bimal Roy ventured into films with 'Musafir' in 1957.

He never portrayed glamour or largeness in his films yet the simplicity and realistic approach made him one of the most popular directors of his time.

On his death anniversary, we remember the magic of his films which have not faded with time.
'Anari'
After 'Musafir', Hrishikesh got an opportunity to helm 'Anari' in 1959. Starring Raj Kapoor and Nutan, the film was a critical and commercial success.
'Anand'
Hrishikesh Mukherjee fondly known as 'Hrishida' made what is considered his masterpiece 'Anand' in 1971. This classic film gave a complex but compassionate look at the balance between hope, fear, life and death and saw Rajesh Khanna's greatest performance.
'Guddi'
The mesmerizing work continued with 'Guddi' in the same year (1971). Guddi was a semi-satiric look at the film industry and is considered as Jaya Bhaduri's debut film.
'Abhiman'
'Abhiman' saw the Amithabh's and Jaya's greatest ever performance together. In this film Jaya and Amitabh portrayed a couple where the wife's career was stronger than that of the husband. The conflict the couple went through is perfectly essayed in the film.
'Chupke Chupke'
Hrishikesh Mukherjee's 'Chupke Chupke' was a light comedy about a newlywed professor's joke on his pompous brother-in-law.
'Golmal'
The best comedy flick of the time 'Golmal' was also helmed by Mukherjee. The film till now remains as popular and favorite among the audiences as it used to be and is regarded as one of the finest comedy films of Indian Cinema.
'Khubsoorat'
'Khubsoorat' starring Rekha and Rakesh Roshan was one of the film of its kind. The film in which Rekha played a bubbly girl who believed in speaking one's heart and breaking the rules sometimes, won 1981 Filmfare Best Movie Award.
