Diljit Dosanjh in Main Vaapas Aaunga
Acclaimed filmmaker Imtiaz Ali has finally announced his next project. Known for his soulful films about love and aspirations, the director is back with a movie that once again explores the enduring power of love. Titled Main Vaapas Aaunga, the film stars Diljit Dosanjh, Naseeruddin Shah, Vedang Raina and Sharvari. The makers dropped the first-look posters and teaser of the film today. The project reunites several of Imtiaz Ali's frequent collaborators and is set to arrive in theatres on June 12.
The film promises a poignant story of love and longing and also reunites the powerful musical trio of Imtiaz Ali, A. R. Rahman and Irshad Kamil. The posters shared on social media hint at an old-school romance. One image features Sharvari riding a bicycle through fields while Vedang Raina runs behind her, dressed as a Sikh man. Another poster shows Diljit Dosanjh standing calmly in the middle of a field.
The teaser suggests that the story unfolds across two timelines and hints at a love story set during the Partition of India. Diljit appears to serve as the narrator who bridges the past and the present. Meanwhile, Naseeruddin Shah is seen lying on a hospital bed, dealing with an age-related illness, suggesting that Vedang may be portraying the younger version of his character.
Speaking about the teaser, Imtiaz Ali said, "Can love really be lost? Can home be taken away from someone's heart? The biggest story of the century is migration. I feel privileged to have the chance to tell such a story on celluloid. This fictional tale draws heavily from stories of people during the Partition. The past is always present. Decades later, when the sorrow has been spoken about, what remains is the early feeling of love that was too personal to share. The nostalgia of who we love and where we belong stays with us forever. This personal treasure sustains us and defines the quality of our lives."
Sameer Nair, Managing Director of Applause Entertainment, said, "Imtiaz Ali is one of the most distinctive storytellers of our time, with a remarkable ability to create unforgettable stories that stay with audiences. Main Vaapas Aaunga carries that same emotional sweep. As we expand our journey into theatrical storytelling, collaborating with visionary filmmakers like Imtiaz is central to our ambition of bringing powerful, enduring stories to the big screen."
The film is jointly produced by Applause Entertainment, Window Seat Films and Mohit Choudhary, and also brings back the celebrated creative trio of Imtiaz Ali, A.R. Rahman and Irshad Kamil.
