Rajpal Yadav has been making headlines for all the wrong reasons for quite some time. He has been embroiled in a legal battle over a cheque bounce case. As per the recent update, the court upheld his conviction and sentenced him to three months' imprisonment. Amid this, he has been served another notice by the Central Bank of India over a loan of more than Rs 16 crore. His ancestral properties will be mortgaged.
As per a report by NDTV, the Central Bank of India issued an attachment notice on Rajpal Yadav's ancestral property in Uttar Pradesh over an unpaid loan of Rs 16.61 crore. The bank has warned that if the outstanding dues are not cleared within the stipulated period, the mortgaged properties will be auctioned online on September 9. However, the combined estimated value of the two properties is around Rs 3.19 crore. The report further states that Rajpal had taken the loan to produce his film Aata Pata Lapata. Following the alleged non-repayment, the bank has taken possession of the mortgaged properties and initiated the auction process.
Rajpal's elder brother, Shripal Yadav, told Dainik Bhaskar, "This is an old matter. Talks are underway with the bank regarding loan repayment. The matter will be resolved soon. Currently, there is no situation like a property auction."
Back in 2010, Rajpal Yadav reportedly borrowed Rs 5 crore from Delhi-based Murli Projects Pvt Ltd to fund his directorial debut, Ata Pata Laapata. The film failed at the box office, and as a result, the loan remained unpaid. The dispute took an ugly turn after several cheques bounced, and he was accused of non-payment of dues.
He even served a jail term; however, he was out on bail. Rajpal Yadav has declined to settle his 2012 cheque bounce case and will argue it in court, his lawyer revealed.
Despite the ongoing legal issues, Rajpal Yadav has a packed slate of projects. He was recently seen in Bhooth Bangla and Welcome To The Jungle. There is Haiwaan, where he plays a small but impactful role. He also has two web series in his kitty.
