Rhea Chakraborty has opened up about the impact her family faced following the death of her former boyfriend, actor Sushant Singh Rajput, in 2020. In a recent appearance on Farah Khan's vlog, the actor spoke about the intense scrutiny surrounding her family and revealed that her father, retired army officer and former medical professional Indrajit Chakraborty, allegedly lost out on a job because of his connection to her.
Rhea, who is currently seen on The Traitors 2, recalled how difficult the period was for her family after Sushant's death and her subsequent arrest in a drug-related case investigated by the Narcotics Control Bureau.
Speaking about her father's experience, Rhea said he had secured a senior position as a medical superintendent at a reputed hospital. However, she claimed the opportunity disappeared after the authorities at the institution discovered his connection to her.
"Papa got a very big job as a medical superintendent at a very big hospital in town," Rhea recalled. She alleged that her father was subsequently told, "Sorry, you are Rhea Chakraborty's father, so you cannot work here."
The actor also introduced her father to Farah during the YouTube conversation, with the filmmaker joking about preparing food for the family. Indrajit, meanwhile, spoke about looking forward to enjoying meals cooked in their new kitchen.
Rhea's family came under enormous public scrutiny after Sushant's death, with both Rhea and her brother Showik being arrested by the NCB in connection with the drugs case. The CBI later filed a closure report in Sushant's death case, clearing Rhea of charges related to his death.
The actor has previously spoken about the emotional toll of the controversy, including experiencing PTSD following the ordeal. Her time in jail also became a talking point during her appearance on The Traitors 2.
During an episode, Mallika Sherawat took a swipe at Rhea while discussing the idea of a "comeback". After Rhea defended Munawar Faruqui over his comments about Mallika, the actor hit back by referring to Rhea's time in jail.
Rhea felt Mallika's remark crossed a personal line, particularly given everything she and her family had gone through.
Despite the difficult chapter, Rhea has gradually returned to the spotlight. Her appearance on The Traitors 2 marks another prominent step in her professional comeback, while her latest conversation with Farah has offered a glimpse into the impact the past few years had beyond the headlines.
