Speaking about his father, filmmaker David Dhawan, Varun told Filmfare, "He's my biggest critic and my biggest supporter. He's the one who keeps me grounded no matter what." The actor has also opened up about his mother's unwavering support during his early struggles in Bollywood, saying in an interview with The Indian Express, "There were days I came home unsure of myself, and she would always tell me, âYou're stronger than you think.'"

At the trailer launch of Binny and Family, Anjini Dhawan's debut film, Varun arrived to extend his support to his niece. He praised her hard work and clarified that there is no tradition of launching family members in their household. "She is my niece, but I am here as sort of an elder brother... It is a good film, that is why I am here. Like my father never launched me - because that tradition is not there in my family - he doesn't believe in that. We have no hand in what she has done, and it would be wrong for me to take credit for any of her success.
Genuinely, she has done it on her own, and I am very proud of her for that journey," Varun told reporters.
Varun got married in 2021 to his childhood sweetheart Natasha Dalal. In 2024, the couple welcomed their daughter, Lara.
In an interview with Agenda AajTak, six months after his daughter's birth, Varun said, "My wife is scarier. A woman has a more protective instinct after childbirth. For me, she is the superhero, and I am learning from her. I have not had time to spend with my baby. My baby just started eating solid food, and Natasha sent me a video of it. I was so upset that I couldn't witness that first time."
Meanwhile, during an appearance on Koffee with Karan post-marriage, Varun spoke about Natasha being a rock-solid companion. "Natasha has been my rock. She knew me long before the fame and stayed by my side through everything."
