Akshay Kumar's latest comedy entertainer Welcome To The Jungle has finally arrived in theatres, bringing together one of the biggest ensemble casts in recent Bollywood history. Featuring Akshay alongside Suniel Shetty, Arshad Warsi, Raveena Tandon, Jacqueline Fernandez, Disha Patani, Paresh Rawal, Rajpal Yadav and several others, the film has opened to largely positive audience reactions while posting a decent first-day collection at the box office.
According to industry tracker Sacnilk, Welcome To The Jungle earned approximately Rs 15 crore on its opening day. Including the Rs 3.75 crore collected through paid previews on Thursday, the film's total domestic collection now stands at Rs 18.75 crore.
While the opening is better than some of Akshay Kumar's recent releases, the numbers are relatively modest considering the film's reported scale. Welcome To The Jungle is said to have been mounted on a budget of around Rs 250-300 crore, making a stronger opening ideal to build momentum towards recovering its investment.
However, the film has received encouraging word of mouth from audiences, which could help boost collections over the weekend. Family entertainers and comedy films often witness steady growth on Saturday and Sunday if audience response remains positive, and all eyes are now on whether the film can capitalise on that momentum.
Interestingly, Welcome To The Jungle has opened ahead of Akshay Kumar's previous release, Bhooth Bangla. Both films collected Rs 3.75 crore in paid previews, but Bhooth Bangla went on to earn Rs 12.25 crore on its first official day, while Welcome To The Jungle managed Rs 15 crore.
The comparison, however, comes with an important distinction. Bhooth Bangla was reportedly produced on a budget of around Rs 120 crore, significantly lower than Welcome To The Jungle. As a result, the latest release faces greater pressure to sustain its performance over the coming weeks.
Directed by Ahmed Khan, Welcome To The Jungle marks the latest instalment in the popular Welcome franchise and boasts a massive ensemble cast featuring over 30 actors. With positive audience feedback and the weekend ahead, the film will now look to build momentum and strengthen its box office performance in the days to come.
