When Nana Patekar spoke about his eldest son's death: 'He was sick since birth'

Nana Patekar once spoke about the tragic loss of his eldest son, Durvasa, who passed away at the age of two and a half. Expressing his grief, the veteran actor admitted that he felt `disgusted` when he would prioritise other people`s opinions about his son`s health condition.

Nana Patekar passed away on October 8 after reportedly suffering a severe cardiac arrest. The veteran Bollywood actor was found unresponsive and was rushed to the hospital.

Nana Patekar was one of Bollywood's most respected actors, who established himself with his powerful acting and commendable dialogue delivery. Despite the success, his life was not without personal struggles.

Nana Patekar on demise of 2-year-old son

Nana lost his elder son, Durvasa, who battled health complications from birth, including partial loss of vision. The actor once expressed his feelings of self-disgust when he thought of public perceptions of his son's condition, instead of putting his child's own experience first.

Nana had shared that he had named his son after the angry sage Durvasa, and unfortunately, he passed away when he was just two and a half years old.

Nana Patekar on coping with public perception

In a conversation with Lallantop, Nana Patekar shared, "My eldest son was sick since birth. He had some health complications. He had trouble in one eye, it wasn't visible. I felt so disgusted that when I saw him, I thought about what people would think, what kind of son Nana has."

He further added, "I didn't think about what he felt or how he felt. I only thought about what people would think about my son. His name was Durvasa. He spent two and a half years with us. But what can you do? Some things happen in life."

Nana Patekar dies at 75

Nana Patekar passed away on Thursday morning following a severe cardiac arrest at his residence. He was found unresponsive at his residence and was quickly admitted to a nearby hospital for treatment. He is survived by his former wife, Neelkanti Patekar and son, Malhar Patekar
