Kannada Actor Ajay Rao and wife Sapna file for divorce after 11 years, wife files domestic violence case

Popular Kannada actor Ajay Rao has made headlines after recent reports claimed that he is headed for divorce with his wife Sapna. For months, there have been whispers of tension between the two that have been circulating on social media and industry circles for some time now; however, neither Ajay nor Swapna has ever addressed the rumours publicly. The two have been facing trouble in their paradise. Now, reports claim that they have filed for divorce and proceedings are underway. In addition to the divorce filings, reports also claim that his wife has also filed a complaint against him under the Domestic Violence Act, along with their six-year-old daughter.

Ajay Rao and Sapna file for divorce

According to several media reports, Sapna has filed a complaint against Ajay Rao in a magistrate's court under Section 12 of the Domestic Violence Act. Notably, in 2024, Ajay and Sapna moved into their new home near Yelahanka, Bengaluru. The family of three had celebrated the housewarming ceremony, inviting several prominent figures from the Kannada film industry.

However, soon after this happy occasion, reports started surfacing about alleged trouble in their marriage. Ajay and Sapna tied the knot after dating for several years on December 18, 2014, in Hosapete, Karnataka. Their wedding was attended by family and close friends. Later, the couple welcomed their daughter named Cherishma, in 2019.

Although the exact reason for their separation is unknown, according to a report in Asianet Suvarna, the problems in Ajay and Swapna's marriage deepened after the actor began focusing on producing films in addition to acting. He turned producer with his recent film, Yuddhakanda, where he also acted. The film failed to perform well at the box office, and the financial setback was reportedly severe. The losses from the film are believed to have put immense pressure on the couple's relationship.
