Actor and Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) chief Vijay took to social media to release a video statement after the Karur stampede. The tragic incident, which occurred during a rally led by Vijay, claimed the lives of over 40 people. In his message, the actor expressed deep sorrow and grief over the loss and also addressed the political controversy surrounding the tragedy.
In a nearly 5-minute-long video, Vijay said, "I have not faced a painful situation like this in my life. My heart aches. There is only pain in my heart. People came to see me at the campaign. I am always grateful for the love and affection people have for me. To ensure there was no compromise on people's safety, I set politics aside, chose a place that was safe for the public, and requested the police department. But what should not have happened, happened."
Vijay also addressed the blame being placed on his party members and the organisers for negligence. Directly mentioning Tamil Nadu CM MK Stalin, he said, "We did not do anything wrong. But the party leaders, friends, and social media users are filing FIRs against them. CM sir, if you have an intention to take revenge, do anything to me. Do not touch them. I'll either be at home or in my office. Do whatever you want to me."
Further hinting at a political conspiracy, the actor questioned, "We campaigned in five districts, so why did this happen only in Karur? How did this occur? People know the truth, and they are watching everything."
He also expressed confidence that the truth would eventually come out, "We spoke from the spot that was given to us. When I saw the people of Karur reveal the truth (on social media clips), I felt as if the Almighty had descended on earth to speak it. I am confident the truth will come out soon."
Vijay additionally addressed why he rushed out of Karur after the stampede. "I didn't visit Karur immediately as it would have created an unusual situation. I will meet the families of the victims and the injured soon."
Concluding his message, Vijay said, "Our political journey will continue with more strength and more fearlessness. At this time, I would like to thank the politicians, party members, leaders, and everyone who spoke up for me."
