Mohanlal and Mammootty's film Patriot finally hit theatres on Friday and received largely positive reviews from critics and audiences. However, a section of the audience has also criticised it. The film reunited the two superstars after almost 18 years, leaving fans excited. Recently, Mammootty encouraged audiences to watch the movie and form their own opinions. The veteran actor stressed that Patriot was made with the intention of entertaining a wide audience.
Now, Mammootty has addressed the polarising response for the first time at an event in Dubai. He said, "We are living in an era where privacy is increasingly lost, and the film Patriot addresses this relevant subject."
He went on to add, "There will be different views - good, bad, partly good, mostly good. Everyone is free to express their opinion as they feel. Some of you may have heard such opinions before coming here. Whatever it is, you will form your own view, and that is what matters. Films are made with the intention of being enjoyed by all."
Patriot, starring Mohanlal and Mammootty, opened with a net collection of Rs 9.8 crore on its first day and added Rs 6.15 crore on Saturday, taking its two-day India net total to Rs 16.15 crore.
The film marks Mohanlal and Mammootty's reunion. The last time the two megastars appeared together in a full-length film was Twenty:20 (2008). The story revolves around a retired JAG officer, portrayed by Mammootty, who is wrongfully framed for espionage. Determined to clear his name and protect the nation, he embarks on a covert mission. Joining him in this high-stakes operation is Mohanlal.
In a press meet prior to release, Mammootty had said, "This film is made for Malayalis. While we hope it may eventually find an audience outside Kerala, the primary goal was to cater to the people of Kerala, whose cinematic tastes have evolved significantly over the years. This is not a pan-India film⦠Patriot will be a game-changer."
The film, which has triggered huge expectations ever since it was announced, also features acclaimed actors Fahadh Faasil, Kunchacko Boban, Nayanthara, Rajeev Menon, and Revathy, in addition to the two Malayalam superstars.
