Anupamaa actress Rupali Ganguly recently grabbed eyeballs after she shared a post on her Instagram story slamming Bollywood actress Alia Bhatt's leather outfit. On Monday, Rupali posted a story that criticises Alia's clothing, calling out the actress for allegedly wearing leather made from skinned baby calves and lambs.
The video, originally shared by a user named Sai Lohith, raised questions about Alia's all-leather outfit at the Milan Fashion Week. The person asked the actress, "Is this what you support Alia?" while breaking down Alia's look, where she appeared as a Gucci brand ambassador. The post alleged that the outfit involved the skins of "3-month-old baby calves and 4-month-old baby lambs" being used for leather production.
The person further questioned Alia, "Your cat, Edward, how would you feel if someone murdered your son and used his skin to make bags and shoes?" They also accused Gucci of "exploiting snakes, crocodiles, silkworms, cows, sheep, and goats."
Additionally, Sai also pointed out the irony of Alia's initiative "Coexist by Alia Bhatt", which encourages harmony between humans and animals. The user slammed the actress, saying, "If this is the idea of your co-existence, then the animals are doomed." They went on to call Alia a "hypocrite", alleging that she promotes such causes only for PR and fame, while also criticising her for setting a negative example for her daughter.
Although the Anupamaa actress did not add any caption while sharing the post, the fact that she reshared the video was an indication towards her criticism of Alia's alleged support of animal-derived fashion.
Alia Bhatt's passion for the environment and animal welfare is well-known. The actress even has her own sustainability-focused platform, called Coexist, which is focused on raising awareness of animal welfare, ethical consumption, and environmental preservation.
Back in 2018, she reportedly told DNA India, "I always wanted to do something good, being in the position where I am today. I feel passionately about animals. Having said that, we also need to be protective of our country, world, and space. If we only take care of our own place and don't worry about the world, then it's a selfish way to lead our lives. My main aim is to create as much awareness as I can."
