Television actor Karan Wahi has found himself at the centre of a social media storm after his comments on modern relationships and women's independence during a podcast with actress Chhavi Mittal went viral. While sharing his views on dating and changing relationship dynamics, the actor's remarks drew sharp criticism from several internet users, who labelled them "regressive" and "misogynistic."
During the conversation, Wahi compared women from his mother's generation with women today. Reflecting on how relationships have evolved, he said his mother would quietly deal with problems instead of reacting immediately. "My mom would remain silent whenever something bothered her and handle it on her own," he said, adding that today, "a woman says, 'f''k you' and just moves on."
The actor also narrated an incident from his own dating life. Wahi said he has always preferred seeing only one person at a time because dating multiple people would leave him confused. However, he claimed that he later discovered a woman he was dating was simultaneously seeing seven other men.
Explaining his reaction, Wahi said, "I'm not judging you, but phir kaise, where will, how will you stop?" He further clarified that he was not trying to decide whether such behaviour was right or wrong, but admitted he found it difficult to understand.
The clip quickly made its way to social media platforms, where many users criticised the actor's perspective. Several argued that his comparison unfairly glorified women from older generations for remaining silent despite facing hardships, while portraying outspoken women in a negative light. Others felt his comments about dating multiple people came across as judgmental despite his claim that he was "not judging."
One Reddit user wrote, "Women are no longer putting up with things they had to tolerate for generations." Another commented that while Wahi was entitled to date one person at a time, it was unfair to shame someone else for making different choices.
Despite the backlash, a section of social media users defended the actor, saying he was merely expressing a personal opinion based on his own experiences rather than making a sweeping statement about all women or relationships. Nevertheless, the viral clip has reignited conversations around dating, gender expectations and evolving relationship dynamics in contemporary society.
Wahi is set to return with Khatron Ke Khiladi's new season.
