Six-ft crocodile rescued from drain in Kurukshetra, shifted to breeding centre

A six-foot-long crocodile was rescued from a drain near Narkatari village here, bringing relief to locals living in fear for the past few days.

The reptile had been spotted several times in the drain passing close to agricultural fields, prompting concern among residents.

Many farmers had reportedly stopped visiting their fields alone, fearing an attack.

The rescue was carried out by a team led by diver Pargat Singh after Sarpanch (village head) Anil Kumar alerted them about the crocodile's presence.

Pargat Singh said he initially doubted the information but rushed to the spot after the sarpanch shared photographs of the reptile.

Officials of the Wildlife Department joined the operation as the crocodile was found close to a residential area.

The crocodile was later handed over to the Wildlife Department, which shifted it to the crocodile breeding centre at Bhor Sainda village.

Crocodile sightings have been reported in the region earlier as well.

Around four months ago, several crocodiles measuring 10 to 12 feet were spotted in the Sutlej-Yamuna Link (SYL) Canal, raising safety concerns among locals.

The officials have advised people to immediately report sightings of wild animals and not attempt to capture or approach them on their own.
