The Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) has secured the conviction of two men in a major 1,127-kg ganja trafficking case in Maharashtra, officials said on Tuesday.
The Additional Sessions Judge of the Special NDPS Court in Biloli, Nanded, convicted Gokul Narayan Rajput and Sunil Yadav Mahajan on Tuesday, September 8, 2026, they said.
Both men were sentenced to 10 years of rigorous imprisonment and fined Rs 1 lakh each.
The case dates back to November 15, 2021, when NCB officers intercepted a truck near Manjram village in Naigaon taluka, Nanded district.
During a search of the vehicle, officers recovered 49 bags containing 1,127 kg of ganja.
The NCB seized the drugs, the truck and other relevant items in accordance with the law.
Rajput, who was driving the truck, and Mahajan, the co-driver, were arrested following the seizure of huge quantity of ganja.
During the trial, the prosecution argued that both men were in conscious possession of the commercial quantity of ganja and had failed to provide a satisfactory explanation for possessing the contraband.
After examining the evidence presented in the case, the court found that the prosecution had proved the charges beyond reasonable doubt.
The court convicted the two accused under Section 20(b)(ii)(C) of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985.
Each accused was sentenced to 10 years of rigorous imprisonment and Rs 1 lakh fine, officials said, adding that an additional six months of rigorous imprisonment if the fine is not paid.
The court also ordered the confiscation of the truck and other relevant seized items, subject to the statutory procedure under the NDPS Act.
The NCB said the conviction demonstrates its commitment to effective investigation and prosecution of drug trafficking cases.
The agency said it would continue efforts to identify and dismantle drug trafficking networks as part of the wider goal of creating a drug-free India.
The NCB has also appealed to citizens to support its efforts against the sale, trafficking and distribution of narcotic drugs.
