A newborn baby boy was found abandoned inside a bathroom opposite Ward No 40 at Rajawadi Hospital in Ghatkopar on Monday night. Following the incident, the Tilak Nagar Police registered an FIR against an unidentified woman for allegedly abandoning the child.
According to the police, the infant was discovered around 9 pm by a 22-year-old labourer, Vishnu Shriram Patel, who had gone to the hospital to visit his cousin admitted in the ICU ward. Patel allegedly spotted the baby lying on the floor when he went to use the washroom and immediately alerted the police personnel deployed at the hospital.
The complainant in the case, police constable Jitendra Vishnu Patil, who was on night duty at Rajawadi Hospital's casualty department, rushed to the spot after being informed about the baby.
A nurse was called immediately, and the baby was cleaned before being shifted to the NICU for treatment. Police said the baby's condition is currently stable.
Hospital authorities had no record of any woman giving birth to the child, and no entry related to the delivery was found in hospital records, the police stated.
Officers also searched the hospital premises to trace the mother, but nobody came forward.
Based on the complaint, Tilak Nagar Police registered a case under Section 93 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita against an unidentified woman for allegedly abandoning the newborn with the intention of permanently deserting him.
