The Mumbai Police's Anti-Narcotics Cell (ANC) has arrested two more accused in connection with a major MD (Mephedrone) drug case involving narcotics worth Rs 50.74 crore, officials said on Saturday.
With the latest arrests, the total number of people taken into custody in the case has increased to six.
During the operation, police seized 210 kg of liquid 2-Bromo-4-Methylpropiophenone, a regulated precursor chemical commonly used in the illegal manufacture of MD drugs. Officials said the recovery is expected to provide further leads into the larger drug trafficking network under investigation.
According to police, the case has been registered as C.R. No. 54/2026 under Sections 8(c), 22(c) and 29 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985, and is linked to Agripada Police Station C.R. No. 253/2026.
The two arrested men, aged 32 and 27, are residents of the Pydhuni area in south Mumbai.
Police said they were arrested at around 4.30 am on July 11 during an intelligence-based operation conducted by the ANC's Kandivali Unit.
Officials said the operation was launched after receiving specific information on July 10 that a consignment of liquid MD or its precursor chemical was likely to be supplied in the Wadi Bunder area.
Acting on the information, officers laid a trap and intercepted the two suspects, recovering 210 kg of liquid 2-Bromo-4-Methylpropiophenone from their possession.
Police said the latest seizure is linked to an earlier operation in which the ANC recovered 14 kg of MD and liquid MD collectively valued at more than Rs 50.74 crore.
Investigators suspect that an organised drug syndicate is operating in Mumbai, with possible links extending to other states.
Officials are examining the supply chain, financial transactions and the network involved in procuring precursor chemicals and manufacturing and distributing narcotic substances.
Further investigation is underway to identify other members of the syndicate and determine the full extent of the operation.
In a separate operation on June 27, the Mumbai Police's Anti-Narcotics Cell seized 750 grams of heroin worth approximately Rs 3.75 crore in Goregaon.
One accused, identified as Subhan Imran Gada, was arrested during that raid.
According to police, the Kandivali Unit had acted on specific intelligence about a suspected drug supplier operating in the Goregaon area.
During the operation, officers recovered the heroin from the accused and arrested him. Investigators are examining the source of the seized narcotics and whether the case has links to an interstate or international drug trafficking network.
The accused was later produced before a court, which remanded him to police custody for further investigation.
