The Mumbai Police have arrested a murder accused in connection with a fatal attack reported in the Powai area of Mumbai.
According to police officials, the case was registered at Powai Police Station under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) after the murder of a man on May 24, 2026.
Police said the incident took place near Lotus Supreme Auto Gate at Tunga village on Saki Vihar Road in Powai.
The victim, identified as Yusuf, aged around 55 years, was allegedly attacked with a sharp weapon by an unidentified person. Officials stated that the accused allegedly stabbed the victim on the left side of his chest, leading to his death.
After the case was registered, Crime Branch Unit 10 launched an investigation and examined more than 100 CCTV camera recordings from the crime scene and nearby areas.
Using CCTV footage and technical analysis, police traced the suspect to Surat in Gujarat. A police team was then sent to the location and successfully detained the accused.
The accused has been identified as Deepak alias Deep Nyayprasad Varma, 26.
During questioning, police said the accused allegedly confessed to committing the murder following a dispute that had taken place about a week earlier.
Officials stated that further legal proceedings are underway and the accused remains in police custody for further investigation.
The operation was carried out under the guidance of senior Mumbai Police officials, including commissioner Deven Bharti and other officers from the Crime Branch and Powai Police Station.
