A carcass of over 30-foot-long whale washed ashore near the Breach Candy Hospital area at the Mumbai Coastal Road project work site on Tuesday.

The Range Forest Officer (RFO) Central Mumbai Suresh Varak from Mangroves Cell said, "Upon receiving the information, our team reached the spot and the carcass was removed. As the dead whale was about 30-feet-long, it was very difficult to remove it. With the help of two large JCBs, the carcass was shifted to the dumper and transported to conduct further procedures and later buried."

Over the years there has been an increase in the number of marine creatures dying at various beaches in Maharashtra. In many cases, the autopsy is not conducted on these dead animals.

The NGOs working in the field of wildlife and environment have been demanding that there needs to be better coordination and experts should be appointed to conduct the autopsy so that the main reason behind the death of these marine creatures is revealed.

There have been several reasons behind the deaths and the experts working in the field feel that it is very difficult to give an exact reason behind the death of marine creatures unless a proper system is in place.
