A CNG BEST bus met with an accident in Andheri West's Amboli around 3.40 pm on Friday allegedly due to a brake failure. The DN Nagar police stated that the wet lease bus, operating on route no. 242, rammed into at least 14 stationary vehicles and injuring at least six people. According to preliminary information, the bus allegedly went out of control while taking a right turn onto SV Road near the Andheri Subway.
The bus driver, Shri Sahil Suryakant Sawant, 30, and conductor, Shri Kiran Appa Chawan, 35, both wet lease MUT staff, were taken to DN Nagar police station for questioning.
"Around 10 officials from DN Nagar Traffic Police navigated the traffic through the spot. The situation was back to normal within two hours," said Jyoti Hibare, PI, DN Nagar Traffic Police.
"Preliminary inquiry suggests that the brakes failed. We have taken statements from the eyewitness. CCTV footage will be assessed, and we will be registering an FIR in the matter," said Sachin Gawas, senior PI, DN Nagar police station.

âI was in the opposite lane when the incident took place. I saw the bus coming at a high speed. It injured two pedestrians, and then it proceeded to crash into the vehicles that were waiting for the green light. We rushed to rescue the pedestrians and auto drivers'

âMy autorickshaw is crushed beyond repair, and I have suffered an injury on my head. I have been working as an autorickshaw driver since 2009, but never have I seen such an accident, let alone been involved in one. The bus came speeding and rammed into the vehicles.'

âI had gone to the Andheri market with my sister and nephew. We all were waiting at the signal when the collision happened. My car crashed into the loading vehicle ahead, following the bus crash. I have third-party insurance, and I am not sure if it will cover the damages'
