Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister and Minority Development Minister Sunetra Pawar on Tuesday directed the officials to speed up the construction of a proposed engineering college for minority girls at Anushaktinagar in Chembur area of Mumbai.
According to an official statement, she said the Maharashtra government remains committed to the overall development of minority communities through education, skill development and social empowerment.
The directions were issued during a review meeting held at Sahyadri Guest House in Mumbai to assess various schemes of the Minority Development Department and the functioning of the Jain Minority Economic Development Corporation, it said.
The meeting was attended by Higher and Technical Education Minister Chandrakant Patil, Minister of State Madhuri Misal, MLA Sana Malik Sheikh and senior officials including Manisha Verma, Rajesh Deshmukh and Yogesh Mhase, the statement said,
The statement said that Sunetra Pawar stressed the importance of creating quality infrastructure for higher technical education for girls, especially from minority communities. She said this is essential for their social and economic progress.
The meeting also discussed key issues related to the âMARTI' institution. Proposals included opening a separate account, filling approved posts promptly and setting up a temporary office on a rental basis to improve functioning.
The state government is planning measures to connect youth from minority communities with modern education system. Emphasis will be placed on skill development, technology-based learning and employment-oriented programmes, it said.
The statement further stated that Sunetra Pawar also announced that a full-time Managing Director will be appointed to improve the functioning of the Jain Minority Economic Development Corporation.
She directed officials to review proposals submitted by the corporation and take swift action.
The deputy CM instructed that necessary infrastructure and manpower be provided to enhance the corporation's efficiency. She also assured that pending appointments of non-official members to various boards under the Minority Development Department would be resolved soon, officials said.
Sunetra Pawar reiterated that the state government will extend full support to ensure effective implementation of schemes aimed at the social and economic upliftment of minority communities, they said.
