BEST electric bus crashes into six vehicles at Gokhale Bridge signal, three injured

A wet-lease electric bus (A-221/36) - running between Andheri West to Versova - of the Brihanmumbai Electric Supply and Transport (BEST) crashed into six vehicles at the Gokhale Bridge signal on Monday at around 12 pm, injuring at least three persons.

The incident occurred after the driver allegedly let go of the hand brake and the bus moved forward without warning. According to officials, the bus hit four autorickshaws, one car, and a scooter.

Conductor dials police

The bus conductor alerted the police about the incident, following which the authorities shifted the three injured individuals to the Cooper Hospital for medical treatment.

The injured

Police have identified the injured persons as Enus Shaikh, 55, an autorickshaw driver, who suffered a nose injury; Manojkumar Bajdev, 30, a pedestrian, who suffered a blunt injury to his neck; and Anis Nisar Dhari, 20, the Activa rider, who suffered a blunt injury to his waist.

Probe launched

The incident is now being investigated by accident officer Tambitkar, while the bus involved in the crash has been taken to the Kumkum Chowki for further legal formalities, officials said.
