Mumbaikars can order steamed and fried modaks prepared by women's self-help groups during Ganeshotsav 2026, under 'BMC Modak Mahotsav 2026'.

The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) is organising the initiative to make modaks prepared by the civic body-backed women's self-help groups available to citizens during the Ganeshotsav period.

Online orders can be placed throughout the festival through shgeshop.com, with home delivery scheduled to begin from the day of Ganesh Chaturthi on September 14. The delivery service will be available only within Mumbai.

Citizens will have to register at least one day before placing their order, according to the BMC Planning Department. The initiative will continue throughout Ganeshotsav 2026.

Steamed and fried modaks available

Modaks, a traditional offering to Lord Ganesha, see high demand during Ganeshotsav. The BMC has therefore facilitated the participation of women's self-help groups that receive financial assistance from the civic body.

Under the initiative, customers can order both ukadiche (steamed) and fried modaks prepared by the groups.

The initiative is being conducted under the guidance of Meenal Turde, Chairperson of the BMC Women and Child Welfare Committee.

BMC aims to support women entrepreneurs

The initiative is also aimed at providing women's self-help groups with greater market access and business opportunities. The BMC promotes these groups to encourage financial independence and self-reliance among women in Mumbai.

"Modak Mahotsav 2026" is part of the civic body's efforts to promote products made by women's self-help groups while creating additional business opportunities for them during the festive season.

Through the initiative, Mumbaikars can purchase modaks prepared by the groups while supporting women entrepreneurs, said Dr Prachi Jambhekar, Director (Planning).
