CJP protest: Raj Thackeray addresses gathering in Dadar; Aaditya and Amit visit police station after cops detain protesters

Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) chief Raj Thackeray, along with his wife, Sharmila Thackeray, on Wednesday joined a protest in support of the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) in Dadar area of Mumbai.

The demonstrations took place at multiple locations and led to the detention of several protesters on Wednesday as police enforced prohibitory orders across the city.

A large crowd later gathered outside Shiv Sena Bhavan in Dadar, where protesters raised slogans demanding the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan and criticising Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Police maintained a strong presence at all protest locations throughout the day to prevent any untoward incidents as demonstrations concluded peacefully.

Several protesters were reportedly detained by the police on Wednesday, sources said.

Political leaders visit police station

According to the PTI, following the detentions, Shiv Sena (UBT) MLA Aaditya Thackeray and MNS leader Amit Thackeray visited the protest site before heading to the police station.

According to sources, the detained protesters were released after their intervention.

Congress leaders stopped on way to BJP office

Senior Maharashtra Congress leaders, including state president Harshvardhan Sapkal, Congress Legislature Party leader Vijay Wadettiwar and former minister Naseem Khan, were stopped by police at Regal Cinema Chowk in south Mumbai, according to the PTI.

The leaders were on their way to the Maharashtra BJP office, where they intended to hand over a copy of the Constitution of India to BJP representatives.

Police removed the leaders from the junction and took them to Colaba Police Station in police vehicles.

During the protest, Congress workers raised slogans including "Modi Hato, Desh Bachao", as per the PTI.

Protesters detained in Chembur

Hundreds of protesters also gathered at Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar Garden in Chembur despite heavy police deployment.

According to officials, several demonstrators were detained after violating prohibitory orders. Eyewitnesses alleged that some protesters were dragged into police vehicles before being taken to the local police station, the news agency reported.

Many participants carried placards demanding reforms to the education system and action over the alleged examination paper leak.

Some protesters also claimed they were stopped by police before reaching the protest venue.
