From people distributing food to hospital patients determined to vote despite their ailments, these stories highlight the city's spirited commitment to democracy.

Saroj Mehta, 87, a resident of Vrindavan co-op housing society in Dev Nagar, Kandivli West, not only cast her vote but also took the opportunity to distribute vada pav and other snacks to the police, home guards, and security staff stationed around the polling stations in Kandivli. Speaking to mid-day, she said, "I have been distributing food to police, homeguards and security personnel since the pandemic. I feel they are often overlooked. These days, few people take the time to greet or inquire about others. Seeing the smiles on the faces of the personnel when I handed them water bottles and vada pav brightened my day." Mehta distributed 96 small water bottles and around 70 vada pavs.
Meanwhile, 74-year-old Kusum Gaikwad from Ghatkopar West, who had been hospitalised at New Life Hospital for the past five days, took a few hours' leave from the doctor to cast her vote. "The polling booth was not very far, located at New Dayasagar in Ghatkopar West. So, I went there with my daughter in an autorickshaw and cast my vote. I have never missed voting and decided not to miss it this time either," she explained.
Anis Farooqi travelled to the Oshiwara BMC Hindi School in Jogeshwari West from Vaishali Nagar in his wheelchair, accompanied by a ventilator machine. Anis has been dependent on a ventilator for the past 25 years.
