A 12-year-old boy died and two other people were injured after part of a house collapsed in Maharashtra's Thane district on Friday afternoon, officials said.
The incident took place at around 3.35 pm on July 10, 2026 at Madras Chawl, near Missionary Chapel Church in Azad Nagar, Brahmand, Thane West, they said.
According to officials, a section of the gallery of a ground-plus-one-storey house, estimated to be 25 to 30 years old, collapsed onto a neighbouring house.
Three members of a family were inside the affected house and were reportedly sleeping when the structure fell, trapping and injuring them.
The injured were taken to nearby hospitals for treatment.
A 35-year-old woman suffered a head injury and is undergoing treatment at Titan Hospital.
A nine-year-old boy also sustained a head injury and is receiving treatment at the same hospital.
A 12-year-old boy suffered serious injuries and was taken to the Civil Hospital, where doctors declared him dead.
Following the incident, personnel from the Thane Municipal Corporation's (TMC) Regional Disaster Management Cell (RDMC), the Fire Brigade, Kapurbawdi Police, the Disaster Response Team and other civic departments reached the site.
As a precaution, three houses in Madras Chawl were evacuated. Officials also cordoned off the area to prevent further danger.
Further action, including a structural assessment and necessary safety measures, is being carried out by the Majiwada Ward Committee, the Public Works Department and the Encroachment Department.
The officials are continuing to assess the condition of the affected structure and the surrounding buildings. The exact cause of the collapse has not yet been officially confirmed.
Meanwhile, in an another incident, two teenagers drowned in separate incidents reported in Kandivali West, with rescue teams, police and emergency services being mobilised, officials said.
In the first incident, a 17-year-old boy drowned in Dingeshwar Talav at Charkop Gaon near Rustomji Building in Kandivali West on Sunday afternoon.
According to information received from the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation's Mumbai Fire Brigade (MFB) Control, the incident took place at around 2.18 pm.
Fire brigade personnel launched a search operation at the spot. The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) was also mobilised following a request from the fire brigade.
Officials said further details regarding the incident are awaited.
