The Kalyan-Dombivli Municipal Corporation (KDMC) elections threw up several decisive results on Friday. Several wards in the KDMC experienced victories and defeats by large margins.
These outcomes in the local body polls in Kalyan-Dombivli not only highlighted strong local mandates but also underlined shifting political equations across key pockets of the civic body.
Among the top five biggest winners by margin of victory, Sandesh Patil of the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) emerged as the biggest winner. Patil, contesting from Ward 22A, registered a commanding win by 8,946 votes, marking one of the most emphatic victories in the KDMC polls.
Close on his heels was Rasika Krishna Patil of the BJP, securing Ward 23B with a margin of 8,918 votes, reinforcing the party's strength in the area. Whereas, another notable MNS win came from Ward 22B, where Dr Rasika Sandesh Patil won by 5,467 votes, adding to the party's strong showing in select wards.
The Shiv Sena (Eknath Shinde faction) also featured prominently among the big winners. Rekha Janardan Mhatre clinched Ward 21C with a margin of 5,268 votes, while Vikas Gajanan Mhatre won Ward 22D by 5,159 votes, underscoring the faction's solid grassroots support.
On the other side of the Kalyan-Dombivli civic polls, several candidates suffered heavy defeats. Topping the list of the biggest losers by margin was BJP candidate Prakash Gopinath Bhoir. Prakash Bhoir lost Ward 22A by 8,946 votes, the same margin that propelled MNS's Sandesh Patil to victory.
In Ward 23B, Independent candidate Sangita Mukesh Patil faced a crushing defeat, losing by 8,918 votes to BJP's Rasika Krishna Patil.
Another BJP candidate, Ashwini Anmol Mhatre, stood as the third biggest loser, who lost Ward 22B by 5,467 votes, mirroring the winning margin of MNS's Dr Rasika Sandesh Patil.
Archana Sanjay Patil was defeated in Ward 21C by 5,268 votes, while Yogendra Yashwant Bhoir lost Ward 22D by 5,159 votes, reflecting tough contests for the party in these wards.
The sharp margins in these wards underline the decisive nature of voter choices in the KDMC elections.
