In a major push to strengthen public education in Palghar district, the Motilal Oswal Foundation has signed a three-year Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Zilla Parishad (ZP) Palghar to launch the Palghar District Education Transformation Program.
The district-wide initiative aims to improve learning outcomes from early childhood through youth employability under a comprehensive 'Cradle to Career' framework.
The MoU signed between the asset management firm and the Palghar Zila Parishad focuses on aligning the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, NIPUN Bharat, and NIPUN Maharashtra.
The programme seeks to build a sustainable and government-led education ecosystem across the district.
Over the next three years, the programme is expected to benefit more than 1 lakh students from Classes 1 to 8, over 98,000 children enrolled in Anganwadi centres, and around 2,000 youth through skill development and employability initiatives.
Suneeta Agrawal, Vice Chairperson of the Motilal Oswal Foundation, said, "The foundation has a long-standing collaboration with schools in the Wada region, which has been ongoing for over a decade."
"We now aim to expand this effort throughout the entire Palghar district to co-create a sustainable education system. This collaboration reflects our shared commitment to developing long-term, impactful solutions in education, ensuring better learning outcomes and stronger support systems for schools and students," Agarwal added.
The programme will be implemented across 2,115 government schools, 22 private aided schools, and 1,634 Anganwadi centres in Palghar district.
The initiative will focus on four key areas: early childhood education, foundational literacy and numeracy, future learning skills, and youth skilling and employability.
One of the key features of the programme is its emphasis on government ownership and long-term sustainability.
The programme also seeks to strengthen coordination among various stakeholders by addressing challenges such as teacher shortages, improving teacher training and supervision, reducing administrative burden on educators, and leveraging existing government schemes to maximise educational outcomes.
Under the partnership, the Motilal Oswal Foundation will provide strategic guidance, financial support, and programme oversight, while Zilla Parishad Palghar will lead implementation and facilitate coordination across departments to ensure effective execution.
Manoj Ranade, IAS, Chief Executive Officer of Zilla Parishad Palghar, while emphasising the education infrastructure across the rural areas of Palghar, said, "By bringing together the strengths of government, civil society, and community stakeholders, we are creating a coordinated approach that addresses challenges across the education journey - from early childhood to employability. We look forward to building a model that can deliver measurable and lasting impact across the district."
Officials further said that the initiative is expected to serve as a scalable model for district-level education reform by embedding successful practices into the public education system while ensuring long-term sustainability through government ownership and community participation.
